Cardio is important for fat loss but the most efficacious form of cardio is high intensity interval training or HIIT as it more commonly known. This is a form of exercise that focuses on short, intense bursts of cardio followed by a rest period.
The benefit of HIIT training is that it burns a lot of calories in a relatively short time period. The excess post exercise oxygen consumption (EPOC) means you will continue to burn calories long after you have left the gym.
Many people, women in particular are put off lifting weights as they fear they may become too muscular and bulky. However, weight training actually burns a significant amount of calories and with the help of a periodised training programme will, in time, help build lean muscle mass which will give your body a toned and sculpted silhouette. Lean muscle burns more calories than fat, thus improving your basal metabolic rate.
